Here's to another great year for documentaries and Dogwoof! Check out the Dogwoof team’s favourite highlights of the year.
ANNA GODAS
“Has to be Dogwoof’s Christmas party: after a tough year following the doc market crisis, I took the decision to keep costs low and do our party in-house (in our office basement to be exact). I really wanted to give our team a memorable day, and prove that, even if we spend less, we can still have the same magic (or more!) than hiring an external venue. I loved seeing everyone’s faces when they walked in and I loved seeing how everyone enjoyed themselves (some were there for over 12 hours straight!) - I felt a very strong team spirit and that is precisely what we all needed to start 2024.”
OLI HARBOTTLE
“My film highlight would have to be QUEENDOM, I love this documentary and everything it stands for - it has proved a strong personal reminder of why Dogwoof's commitment to championing a wide range of documentaries is continually so satisfying. Beyond that, the news that we will go into Sundance in January with four titles, including one of our very own productions EVERY LITTLE THING through our partnership with our favourite Aussies over at WildBear Entertainment, was a great way to end what has been a challenging year. Bring on 2024.”

“My highlight of 2023 and a dream-come-true moment? Becoming a part of Dogwoof in May. It's been a game-changer in my career, an adventure that I grabbed hold of and absolutely thrived in. There's nothing quite like having a job you wholeheartedly love and which gives you a sense of purpose and fulfilment.
But let me zoom in a bit. Within just six months of spearheading the launch of Dogwoof's Original Development department, I was part of a significant milestone by successfully executing and securing a unique access and co-development agreement for an exciting premium feature documentary. This accomplishment felt like the first of many victories to come!”

“Dogwoof winning for Social Impact at the BASE Awards:
It was really wonderful to see the level of support and appreciation for the films we champion and the messages we try to elevate particularly in the indie sector. We won this one specifically for the film Subject which highlights the importance of ethical filmmaking in the documentary space. The BASE awards are always a fantastic night out and it was great seeing industry colleagues and the literal acrobatics on stage kept us well entertained.”

“My highlight of the year would be the BARBIE THEMED PARTY! Dazzling outfits, wonderful food, and most importantly, some quality time with amazing people! “
DROO PADHIAR
“2023 has been a rollercoaster year, with such varied marketing campaigns and new and interesting creative challenges, which has been super fun brainstorming with the team. Out of all the great things that have happened in 2023, my personal highlight was to see Navalny take the Best Documentary Oscar and BAFTA, and to be there in-person at the BAFTAs to see this happen. It was a truly stunning start to the year for a film that richly deserved it - bravo to all who worked on it!”
Greg Tomkins
“My highlight of 2023 was the release of 'Little Richard: I Am Everything'. He was the instigator, emancipator and architect of rock n roll and in my view the 'big bang' that the modern music universe evolved from. His achievements were often overlooked during his lifetime but this film firmly places him at the top of the pile of the rock n roll pioneers, an accolade he truly deserves! “
TILLY HUDSON
“Emma Corrin hosting a special Q&A screening for the UK release of Queendom was my highlight of the year. It was a packed out screening with an array of engaging audience questions. A good old fashioned busy cinema screening which was fun to work on!”
RACHEL BROWN
“My highlight of 2023 is the overwhelming reaction to the original England lionesses seeing COPA 71 at the London Film Festival in October. Following the film throughout the Dogwoof production it was fantastic to see the England team gathered at the BFI Southbank with the filmmakers on stage for the Q&A. It was an electric atmosphere almost like that in 1971 in Mexico City and the players became well deserved celebrities again. Directors Rachel Ramsay & James Erskine brought the untold story onto the big screen with the thrilling match footage and insightful stories behind the action at the Women's World Cup and I can't wait for the UK release next year!”
Elliot Nosworthy
“In a year filled with a real range of brilliant, powerful docs from Dogwoof, my film highlight has to be working on D. Smith's explosive and boundary-pushing debut, Kokomo City. A great film to work on in the heat of summer, and it was incredibly rewarding to be able to engage with a number of partners doing vital and frequently overlooked work here in the UK.”

“My highlight has to be the performance of Spice Girls at the Dogwoof Christmas party last Wednesday. It epitomised the spirit of this wonderful place: Talent, fun, passion, expertise, ambition - even in adversity, and always cheered on by others.”
