BEST DOCUMENTARY - THE ACT OF KILLING

Academy Award®-nominated and BAFTA®-winning documentary The Act of Killing might have yet another accolade to add to its list. On the shortlist for an Emmy®, the film by Joshua Oppenheimer investigates the murder and torture of more than a million alleged Communists, ethnic Chinese and intellectuals under the leadership of Indonesia’s Anwar Congo in the 1960's.

After picking up an Oscar® earlier this year, the feature-length series on the sportsman, actor and ex-con O.J. Simpson, O.J.: Made In America, has racked up a whopping 6 nominations. The exploration of race, celebrity, media, violence, and the criminal justice system has been nominated for:

The story of what happens when an ordinary journalist transplanted into the Middle East by the reverberations of 9/11, butts into history. Following the Iraq war Abu Musab al Zarqawi, the most vicious al Qaeda leader the world has ever seen brings the country to its knees orchestrating suicide truck bombings; the bloody horrors of the civil war; the televised beheadings. He captures it all on camera and shares it with the hard-drinking, hard‐running, maverick Michael Ware, an Australian reporting for American news outlets.
