Ahead of the special screening of Whitney 'Can I Be Me' on 11 June we picked the 5 things we love most about the queen of pop.
THE MUSIC
How many Whitney tracks do you know? It’s probably fair to say it’ll be rather a lot. I Will Always Love You took the world by storm but Whitney is not just a lady with one massive hit, classics like 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody', 'I Have Nothing' and 'I’m Every Woman' kept us all moving.
DIVA CREDENTIALS
In 1998, Oprah asked Whitney if she was a diva. She didn’t deny it all, saying only, “Sometimes that can be taken in a negative way.” Only a true diva would own it like that, no?!
THE MOVIES
Whitney didn’t just give us music, she gave us movies (and, okay, soundtracks) including The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale and even Cinderella, where she played Brandy’s Fairy Godmother – wasn’t it fabulous?!
HER BOLD FASHION
Questioning that vintage blazer? That brightly coloured ensemble? Whitney would tell you to wear it. Just don’t try going out in matching outfits with your man - only Whitney can pull that off.
THE VOICE
And finally... the voice. It’s why we all fell in love with the music icon. Whitney’s voice is simply incomparable (Sorry, Mariah!) and will forever keep her alive. If it’s a night in at home or in a club, there’s ALWAYS a Whitney classic for us all to sing-along with - and long may this continue!
