Errol Morris to give BAFTA David Lean Lecture on 6th November

Through the David Lean Lecture, BAFTA offers a platform for truly great directorial talents to talk about issues at the heart of their work and explore what drives them as artists. This year they have chosen Tabloid director Errol Morris to deliver the lecture on the 6th November in London.

Errol Morris is one of the world's great documentary filmmakers with a dozen major film and television credits such as The Thin Blue Line, Gates of Heaven, A Brief History of Time and Standard Operating Procedure. His films have garnered many awards including a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival, the Silver Bear at Berlin International Film Festival, and an Independent Spirit Award. He was awarded the 2003 American Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for Fog of War which re-examines the history of America's engagement in Vietnam through an interview with one of the principal players, former Defence Secretary Robert S McNamara. His soon to be released Tabloid proves he is equally adept with comedy.

Errol Morris’ David Lean lecture also sees the launch of one of BAFTAs new intiatives - BAFTA Guru, a brand new player for the Academy’s video archive.  On 6 November, this prestigious lecture will be streamed live from BAFTA’s Headquarters in Piccadilly, London, heralding the return of the documentary category to the Orange British Academy Film Awards 2012.  BAFTA members in New York will be gathering to watch and viewers can tweet their questions in advance to @BAFTA using #BAFTAlive and the most popular will be put to Errol Morris in the Q&A following the lecture.

To watch the live stream, log on to www.bafta.org/guru on 6 November at 2000GMT.

The Champagne Reception begins at 7pm and the lecture commences at 7.45pm - tickets are £15 and available here
