Dogwoof highlights from 2016

2016 has been another brilliant year for all of us at Dogwoof, to wrap up the year all of the Dogwoof team chose a highlight from the past 12 months:

Yung: Three days with Werner Herzog

Daniel: Weiner being named as Best Documentary of 2016 by iTunes in the UK, the US and further afield - the real sign of a film connecting with a wide, international audience!

Oli: Meeting lifelong heroes Laurie Anderson and Werner Herzog were runaway highlights but in terms of the most unforgettable experience, it would have to be the six hour car journey with Michael Moore from London to Sheffield in gridlock traffic hell as we 'raced' against time to make his film opening Doc/Fest. We ended up being an hour late after the official start-time but in time for him to introduce the film as proceedings at Sheffield City Hall had been delayed due to a fire evacuation alert. Lucky coincidence? Mais oui!

Gemma: Meeting Richard Ayoade. What a mega babe!

Patrick: Interviewing the inimitable Laurie Anderson for over an hour for our Heart of a Dog DVD extras. Among other things, she shared the three life-rules she and Lou lived by:

1. Don't be afraid of anyone;
2. Have a good bullshit detector, and use it;
3. Be tender.

Ana: Hanging out with Matthew Heineman and Roger Ross Williams in New York, a 2016 Academy Award Nominee and an Academy Award winner.

Mayumi: The Laibach concert at the Liberation Day IDFA premiere. LIFE IS LIFE.

Dorottya: Touring with Owen Suskind and his family around the UK for our LIFE ANIMATED release. It was a very unique experience to see the power of family love and cinema.

Luke: LoveTrue in competition at Karlovy Vary where it went on to win the Best Documentary!

Cleo: Getting to interview Werner Herzog for our DVD extras and doing our first ever livestream from London Film Festival with him and Richard Ayoade! Short clip from the interview on the right, full version is on the DVD.

Vesna: 2016 has been a very successful year for Dogwoof Global. We had 7 Sundance titles, two of which are currently on the Oscar's long list: Weiner and Life, Animated. Fingers crossed they get nominated!

Anna: My highlight of the year was to read out everyone's acknowledgments at our Christmas lunch. They all came from their own work mates and we had an overwhelming response of over 100 acknowledgments. Here is a photo of our Christmas lunch and the most acknowledged top 5.
