Grierson Best Cinema Doc win for Cartel Land

The Grierson Awards took place in London last night, the awards are an annual event held to honour the best in British documentary. Many special guests were present including Ed Milliband, Idris Elba, Ed Balls and Louis Theroux.

Dogwoof sponsored a category at the awards this year, with founder Andy Whittaker presenting the Dogwoof Best Arts Documentary Award together with actress Miriam Margolyes. The award went to Amy from director Asif Kapadia, producer James Gay-Rees accepted the award.  Congratulations from Dogwoof to the winning film and nominees. 

The award for Best Cinema Documentary was presented by Idris Elba and Dochouse's Chloe Trayner to Matthew Heineman for his incredible film Cartel Land. Unfortunately, Matt couldn't be there but he sent a video message expressing his gratitude for the award. Also nominated in this category was Joshua Oppenheimer's The Look of Silence, Alex Gibney's Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and Asif Kapadia's Amy.

Cartel Land received a huge amount of attention during the Awards seasons being nominated for an Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Feature Documentary. Earlier this year the film also took home three Emmy Awards: Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking, Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program and Oustanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction Program. Congratulations to director Matthew Heineman and the team for their latest awards win.
